Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a compassionate, insight-oriented approach to therapy that understands the mind as made up of different “parts,” each with its own feelings, beliefs, and roles.
Rather than seeing inner conflict as something to fix or eliminate, IFS views these parts as meaningful — often formed to protect you during difficult or overwhelming experiences. At its core, this approach is rooted in the belief that every part has a reason for being there, even if its strategies no longer serve you.
How IFS Works
IFS is based on the idea that we all have an inner system made up of parts that interact with one another, alongside a core Self — the calm, compassionate, grounded essence within you.
In IFS, we work together to:
Gently identify different parts of you (such as anxious, critical, or protective parts)
Understand what these parts are trying to do for you
Create space for curiosity instead of judgment
Strengthen access to your core Self, where clarity and self-compassion live
This process allows healing to happen through understanding and connection, rather than force or pressure.
What Can IFS Help With?
IFS can be especially supportive for:
Anxiety and emotional overwhelm
Low self-esteem and inner criticism
Trauma and unresolved emotional experiences
People-pleasing and boundary difficulties
Relationship patterns and attachment wounds
Feeling disconnected from yourself
It’s particularly helpful if you often feel torn internally or find yourself repeating patterns you don’t fully understand.
